Pal's Place would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! We are so grateful for all of our amazing supporters, donors, and adopters and hope everyone has a safe and joyous holiday season. We'd also like to announce the arrival of 7 new precious pups! We welcomed Becky, a 1-year-old female Hound mix, into our foster program a few weeks ago from an animal control facility in Kentucky. Shortly after her arrival, Becky began showing signs of pregnancy, and this week she gave birth to 7 adorable little Christmas elves! 5 males and 2 females, all very healthy, adorable, roly-poly pups! Mom and pups are doing very well and will be looking for their forever families in mid-March. ... See MoreSee Less

Pal's Place

We need your help this #GivingTuesday! Pal’s Place relies 100% on your generosity to carry on our mission of rescuing and rehoming abandoned dogs. We have taken in 157 dogs this year and counting. Operating and veterinary expenses have surpassed $38,000. Several dogs have required extensive medical care. This includes:

*Thirteen heartworm positive dogs

*Two litters of parvo puppies

*Two blind dogs

*Ten senior dogs

100% of your donation goes directly to caring for our rescued dogs. We are a registered 501(c)3 organization, and donations are tax-deductible. Donations can be made via the donate button on Facebook, our PayPal link listed below, or through Zelle with donations sent to palsplace1@hotmail.com

Some of our rescued dogs this year include:

CLEVELAND, a senior Retriever mix we took at the beginning of the year with his brother, CARLO. The brothers were left homeless after their elderly owner passed away. They were understandably depressed and confused after landing in an overburdened animal control facility in Kentucky. To make matters worse, Cleveland is completely blind, further limiting his prospects for rescue. Cleveland and Carlo both had senior work-ups, including complete blood panels, x-rays, and ultrasounds before being placed for adoption. Cleveland also had a testicular tumor about the size of a baseball removed during his neuter surgery. A biopsy revealed the tumor was cancerous but, thankfully, had not metastasized. Clean margins at the surgical site meant the surgery was curative. Cleveland and Carlo were both adopted in wonderful homes and are loving life with their new families.

ALLIE and LILY, two puppies we rescued from animal control. Shortly after their rescue, these sweet girls tested positive for the horrible Parvovirus. Once so full of life, the girls fought for their lives for several days as they were hospitalized. Allie spent a full week hospitalized in intensive care, and Lily four days. We are pleased to report both girls made a full recovery and are now in their forever homes.

BLUE, an adorable and happy one-year-old male Catahoula mix. He was also rescued from animal control and is completely blind. With no obvious cause for his blindness, Blue underwent multiple diagnostic tests before we discovered the culprit. A toxoplasmosis infection. Blue underwent a month-long treatment course to prevent any other side-effects. Unfortunately, he'll never regain his sight, but thankfully he does not let it slow him down one bit! Blue is now enjoying life in his forever home, spending his days wrestling with his canine sister, who acts as his seeing-eye dog! He loves to go for long walks around the neighborhood during the day and cuddling up with his humans on the couch by night.

SINATRA, a senior Lab mix, and XENA, a gentle German Shepherd, are just two of the thirteen dogs that have undergone heartworm treatment this year. Both pups handle their treatment like champs and are now in forever homes.

These happy endings are thanks to our generous supporters! With your continued support, we can continue the important work of healing more dogs and sending them into loving homes. THANK YOU!

Pal's Place

Pal's Place would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! It's been a challenging year for everyone, but we are so thankful for our incredible supporters, fosters, adopters, and donors. Without you, we would not be able to continue our life-saving mission, and we are grateful beyond words for all of you! We also have a happy update to share today. Lenny, a hound mix, had spent an entire year in the care of Pal's Place. He was originally rescued from Kentucky in October 2019. While he is a wonderful, loyal, intelligent, and devoted dog, he has some "stranger danger" issues that made finding the right fit for him a little more challenging. Lenny spent time in a board and train program earlier this year that helped him immensely. His trainers also give his foster home daily practice exercises to help Lenny become more trusting and gave us insights into who an ideal guardian would be. In early October, we were contacted by a woman named Carol. She had read Lenny's story and thought she could provide a safe and loving home for him. She started coming to walk Lenny one to two times a week, so they could get to know each other better, and this past week, she made it official and took Lenny home. He's now known as "Pluto." He is settling in well and is never far from Carol's side. We are beyond thrilled for both of them! If you adopted or fostered a dog through Pal's Place this year (or any year!), please drop a photo and updates in the comments. We'd love to hear from you! ... See MoreSee Less

Our special blind boy Blue is still looking for his forever home! Please share his photo so he can find his happily ever after! Please Share …

Chicago, IL – Adopt Blue the Blind Catahoula/Terrier-Mix

Blue is a gorgeous, affectionate, active, goofy and playful, one-year-old, 40-pound male Catahoula/Terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian.

Blue has been blind since he was a young pup, but he does not let that define him or slow him down. He has a happy attitude with a constantly wagging tail.

Rescued from a shelter in Kentucky, he is now living in a nurturing foster home in Chicago. In just one day, Blue figured out the layout of his foster home and gets around exceptionally well.

Blue needs a little patience and encouragement when introduced to new environments but he's always eager to learn and explore. Once he is familiar with an environment, you'd never know he was blind! He zooms around the yard with his canine foster siblings, flies up and down stairs and can even jumps over a small baby gate. After multiple diagnostic tests it has been determined that the most likely cause of his blindness is the parasitic infection toxoplasmosis.

While he’s recovered from the infection, Blue will never recover his eye sight. He is social with people and other dogs and must live with another dog as his seeing eye friend. He would not do well in a home with cats, or chickens.

He can be timid when meeting new people and needs a little time to warm up. He can still be a bit exuberant in his greetings and mouthy when he plays so he would do best in a home with teens and adults.

Blue loves to give kisses and be cuddled and doted on. He is crate-trained and does very well with his housebreaking when kept on a regular schedule.

Blue is very healthy, neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines, flea and heartworm prevention. He has also had a complete blood panel, a tick-borne illness PCR test, heartworm and fecal test along with chest x-rays.

Blue’s adoption fee of $375 benefits the rescues of Pal’s Place Rescue. Blue is currently in a foster home in Chicago. To apply to adopt blue, please contact palsplace1@hotmail.com or visit palsplacerescue.org
